The Talk

Well..I finally felt like it was time. I had the BIG talk with my now 10 year-old son. With Viva Viagra and Cialis commercials on every 5 minutes during football games and Disney stars like Jamie Lynn Spears getting pregnant, I knew it was time to talk about where babies really come from.

So, this morning at our weekly Thursday breakfast before school I shared with him about where babies come from and what is the meaning of this word "Sex" that he hears so much. In a typical Peyton response, he listened, shrunk down a little in his seat and then said..."Okay, I wonder when the French Toast will be here."

I said, "do you have any questions?" He said, "Nope, I am good!"

It is sad that many of us have to take away our kid's innocence in this subject so early. I wish he could have gone a little longer just thinking that "mommies have babies and God puts them there." However, that is not our culture. Our kids are saturated with sexual talk and images on TV, the Internet and radio. Even if you did not have these things in your house, they hear it from their friends who do.

In thinking about my own kids and the hopes and dreams I have for them, I am so glad that CSF has a great kid's ministry. One that is fun, practical and teaches them the ways of the Bible. I am glad we have a safe place where a kid can be a kid while growing up in their spiritual faith in Christ. We have a kid's ministry that realizes that our kids are growing up in a different world than we did, and our leaders make sure that they communicate helpful principles about tough cultural subjects.

Our Middle School and High School ministry is the same way. Awesome for today's teenagers to learn and grow in a real and practical way. If you attend CSF and have kids of any age.....do yourself and your kids a favor and make sure they are here on a regular basis. Our Kids and Student Ministry is a godly and healthy counter balance to the crazy things they will see, learn and experience in our world.

Daily Bible Reading is Luke chapter 10.

What did you learn? Who did you dine with?

Today, you read about one of the most famous stories in all of the Bible. The good Samaritan story and its principles is well known. The verse that stood out to me was when Jesus was done telling the story, He said what He always says....."GO and do like-wise." Action...doing something about what you learn and what Jesus says. This is the case all throughout the Bible. We are never to learn just for learning sake. We learn so that we can do something about what we learn.

One way you can be like the Samaritan today is to look around you to the people in your life that are beaten up by the world and then invite them to the best possible place of resting and healing....invite them into Fellowship. Invite them to experience our Encounter Service, your Home Team or any other avenue that will introduce them to Jesus Christ.
