More Political Pastor Problems

I never thought that my chosen profession would get so much play in a modern political presidential contest. Once again, a "preacher/pastor" has turned Sunday morning into a time to cast their personal political vote for a specific candidate and trash another one. Like many of you, I am astounded that people would want and tolerate that kind of "teaching" on Sunday morning and would continue to come back.

I was asked recently if I would ever endorse a candidate or criticize one from the stage on Sunday morning. My first answer was....it is supposed to be illegal for a non-profit 5013-C religious organization to publicly support one and encourage the church people to do the same. So, at CSF we choose to follow the law and by doing that ....we then also choose not to preach for or against any one person.

Secondly, I do not feel like Sunday morning is the place to campaign for or against people. In the past I have taught on the Biblical truth that speaks directly to moral political issues. I will continue to do that. Then, after hearing clear biblical truth on a topic, each person can use that information as they decide who they will vote for in a given political contest. Issues like abortion, homosexuality, same sex marriages, pornography and other moral issues are clear in the Bible. A wise voter will know where a candidate stands on these issues and will choose wisely and in-line with biblical principles. Will some people leave CSF because we teach the truth of those issues. Sure.....My guess is that if people in the church do not agree with our churches stances on moral, theological and other cultural issues, they won't stay long. It only takes people about six months of coming to CSF or any other church to know what we believe and how we roll. If people don't agree....they normally leave.

So.......no, this Sunday you will not hear me give a rant about who you should or should not vote for......However, I am going to share with you about how you can avoid addictions in your life that can ruin your life forever!

Also, don't forget.....starting June 22nd we will have a free "Picnic On The Patio" for all those who attend the noon service. The food will be grilled and set up while we are enjoying the service and then after the service is over, we will picnic together!

Today's Bible Reading Romans 11

Paul illuminates the teaching about God being the vine and we are His branches. We have been grafted in and now as Christians are a part of God and should resemble Him and his truth. Do people who see you...see the goodness of God? Are you a positive example of what a Christ follower should look and act like?

We are not talking about perfection...but a life that does reflect the One in whose name we have taken. Christian!

What Do You Think About?

What do you think about most of the time? What is it that is always on your mind? What do you imagine yourself doing and accomplishing when you daydream while on a long drive? Do you have it....be honest....what do you think about most of the time?

I am currently reading the 10 Rules Of Sam Walton by Michael Bergdhal. Michael was a longtime friend and executive with Sam in the corporate offices of Wal-mart. In one chapter of this book he talks about what Earl Nightingale calls the Strangest Secret to success in life and business.

Do you know what they say the secret to you achieving success in life and business is? The key to being successful at whatever you want to accomplish in life is ...."What you think about most of the time is what you become."

Think about it.....that which consumes your mind will consume you. If you think about being a successful student, athlete, business person, guitar player or whatever ...then you will reorient your whole life to doing it. This thing that dominates your thinking is where you will put your time, energy, resources and even free time into achieving. The problem with many of us is that we spend our time thinking about one thing....which is what we are truly becoming, but verbally and physically we head in a different direction. This leads to frustration in life....and one that is not successful. However, if we recognize what it is that we truly think/dream about and then match that with our actions....we can become more successfull.

What do you think about the most? Some of us need to change our thinking....some of us have become addicts over certain things that are at worst very harmful and at best are just a waste of our time. It is all we think about......it is what we are becoming.

It is no wonder that in today's Bible reading in Romans Chapter 10 Paul tells the people that his heart's desires is that people come to Christ. Bar none....that is what Paul thought about all the time. That was the topic of his conversations. He was successful at reaching those who were lost because he re-oriented his life around that which he thought about the most.

Addiction

Over the last few weeks I have read amazing stories of people who say that they are addicted to video games, incest with their daughter, drugs, alcohol, sex, sports, text messaging and the list goes on. What is addiction? How does a person get so addicted to something that they are willing to throw away their families, job, friends and even personal health to obtain and have that which they are addicted?

What does the Bible say about addiction? This Sunday I will continue our SIMPLE series by talking about addiction. One simple thing we can do to have the best life possible is to avoid harmful addictions. From what I am hearing...this SIMPLE series is shaping up to be a life-changing series for many. I pray that you will do everything in your power to be here this Sunday and bring a friend. This topic must be addressed and we must learn the SIMPLE truth of learning how to avoid addictions!

If you were wondering.....this Sunday is also for those who have fallen into some sort of addicted lifestyle and want to get out! Email a friend....call a friend...do what you have to, but get your friends here! Also, this will be a great message for your High School kids!

Today's Bible Reading Romans Chapter 9

Have you ever wanted to "talk back to God" about why he made you the way you are? Ever feel like your lot in life is not as good as someone else? If so, this chapter is for you. Paul very clearly tells us that God is the great potter and we are the clay. Some were born into wealthy homes of privilege and others were born into poor homes that causes them to struggle or every piece of food.

Who does God love more? Neither! He loves us all the same. We can either choose to do our very best with what God has given us....or we can whine and complain. However, we should never allow our selves to fall into the "blame-God" syndrome or the "why-me?"

Memorial Day

I hope you had a great Memorial Day and Weekend. I know the Hibbard family had a good time. Peyton had a weekend baseball tournament, we went to the pool that just opened up for the season, we went and saw Indiana Jones, went to the pool, had a cookout with some friends, went to tho pool, took some time and fixed up some things around the house, went to the pool, and really did not venture to far from the house.....gas prices are to high for that! Did I mention we went to the pool!

I also hope that sometime on Monday you stopped and prayed for the families who have love ones fighting for our freedom and that you whispered a prayer for the families of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. On Monday I did what I always try to do on Memorial Day...I watched the changing of the guards at Arlington National Cemetery on T.V. and had Peyton watch it too. We have taken him there before a few years back and let him see it in person. I have seen it many times as I grew up on the Military base that surrounds the National Cemetery. I always want to remember the sacrifice paid for our freedom and I want my children to grow up honoring the fallen soldiers that are buried there and across the world.

You don't have to agree with the war to honor those who fight for you. They willing serve out of honor, duty and commitment....words that don't always mean as much to many Americans as they should.

Many of you made comments about the song and video presentation we did this Sunday as a Memorial Day tribute. You can actually see the video we made with the song on You Tube. I would encourage you to watch it and then send it around to friends and family. It is a moving tribute and it is also a great way to show people the type of meaningful creativity we do at CSF each Sunday.

One more thing about this weekend. It is the kickoff of Summer. Typically, most people at CSF are gone about 30-50% of the Sundays over the summer. For the first time ever you can keep current on your weekly or bi-weekly giving by using our new on-line giving on our website. It is quick, easy and will allow you to help us stay on financial track all summer!

Today's Bible Reading: Romans Chapter 8

This is a great chapter for what I will be teaching on this coming Sunday. The whole idea of being addicted to something that controls your life. Far to many people are addicted to things that are ruining their lives. Verse 37 is the key....it says that you and I do not have to be ruled by any substance or anything else that may ruin our lives. We are more than conquerors and can be champions in life....if we give our life to Christ and use His power in our life.

What a great way to start off a work week.....we are champions in Christ!

New Building , Land Update and moving out of the office!

As you know, we had over $215,000 given in cash on our Expand Sunday. We also had 4.1 million more pledged over the next three years. This great response enables us to move forward in the real architectural drawings and start the process of getting everything designed and approved by the city. Moreover, we are under contract to purchase the additional 40 acres that is directly behind our current property. We are moving forward with the specifics of making this dream a reality. Thank you...to all who gave and pledged. (Don't forget you can use on-line giving for both general budget giving and Expand giving...I even was able to use it this week...it is easy)

Many people have asked about when will the new building be complete? Our new architect has told us that with all that needs to be done with drawings and the city approvals, we would be very lucky to be able to break ground next Spring. Of course, breaking ground means that we have also received much of the pledged money. We will only move forward with large expenses as it pertains to the building when we can do so with bank approval and a good debt to income ratio.

These are great times at CSF!

As many of you have heard, to help with the speed of the process and to save about $5,000 a month, your great staff as made the choice of being mobile as an office. Starting in late June we will move all CSF operations out of the warehouse and into our current building. New technology will allow us to have "set-up and take-down" office capabilities and you will not notice a difference in our quality. However, it does mean more work and less privacy for our staff. However, we are willing to sacrifice a little to gain much! More than just saving money, we believe the new office set up will make for a better office "feel" and environment as use our still new and state of the art building.

We are growing as a Church and moving forward at a rapid pace to better Team up and reach our God given goals as a local church.

We you see a CSF staff member.... tell them thanks for setting the pace!

Today's Bible Reading: Romans Chapter 4

What do you have to do to be accepted and forgiven by God? Answer....just ask and believe in faith. Paul is clear here that it does not matter where you were born, what your nationality may be, what you do or don't do....salvation and forgiveness comes from asking and receiving freely from God.

The false argument in those days that Paul was fighting was that males had to show his Jewish heritage of being circumcised to be accepted by God. Nope......

What restrictions were placed on you or do you place on others to prove "they are Christians?" If it is anything more than what Paul says here...you have added to the faith and become legalistic in what you believe a person must do to be saved.

Are Friends...Friends Forever???

Do you remember your best friends from High School? Can you list 20 names (first and last) of people you went to high school with? I personally went to a medium size High School (I had a little over 300 people in my graduating class...Kelly had over 1000!)and had to look in my senior year-book to match names with faces.

It is funny how when you are young, you believe that these people will always be your BFF! Most normally do not. However, the effect that we have on each other while in high school is life changing and can last forever.

Who are your friends now as an adult? Have anyone in your life now that is a life-time adult friend? Some of us may have one or two....but most of us have friends for periods of our life. They are good friends until we move, change jobs switch churches and the like. These adult friends will also be people who most likely will influence you in life choices that will impact you for the rest of your life...even if they are long gone. Many adults tell their kids to watch out who they are friends with...but end up making the same mistake themselves as they surround themselves with bad influencing "friends."

With all that truth being said....it is no wonder the Bible is very clear that we should choose our friends wisely. This Sunday we will be talking about what we should look for in a friend and how can we choose to do life with the best possible people! Those who will inspire, encourage and motivate us to be the best we can be for God, our families and our selves.

This Sunday we will also take time to honor our Military heroes who have paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. These soldiers lived out the meaning of Bible's teaching that says...."no greater love has anyone, than he that gives his own life for a friend.

Today's Bible Reading Romans Chapter 3

This chapter starts the classic verses that is sometimes called the Roman's Road to Salvation. In chapter three we see very clearly that all of us are in need of a savior because we can not earn our way into heaven. All of us are sinners in need of forgiveness and this can only be received by accepting Jesus Christ in faith. There is no other way to eternal life expect through accepting Jesus Christ as savior.

If you or a friend thinks there is another way....read through this chapter again. Then rest safely in the knowledge that salvation is free through the grace of Jesus and that all we have to do is ask for in faith believing and we will be saved!

Great news.....tell a friend and bring them this Sunday.

Summer Intern 2008

At CSF we love kids and teenagers. We make sure that every summer is filled with exciting and life changing ministry gatherings. To do this at a VERY high level we hire a summer intern to make sure that summer is a wonderful time. This summer we have brought in Margaret Sanders. Margaret has just completed her sophomore year at Auburn University. (I almost did not hire her because of her poor choice of an SEC school.)We discovered Margaret on a high recommendation from her sister who attends CSF.

Margaret is excited about being here and will bring a wealth of excitement and skill to our Student and kid's summer events. She will be working with Brad and our dynamic Student Ministry volunteers and she will also be working with Clint, Stacey and Leah in Kid's Ministry. She will be a great summer addition to our team.

We take our kids and student ministry very serious at CSF. It is our goal and passion to Team up with you as parents as you seek to "train up your child" in the ways of God and prepare them for real life. We know that being a teenager can be a great time in our life and we also know that if left unguarded it can be disastrous. We also know that many parents are trying to raise their kids alone as single parents and need some positive help in this parenting endeavor. We believe that your children and especially teens need more than just a cool Sunday morning service to develop into fully devoted followers of Christ. This is why we invest so much into these life changing ministries.....I implore you for you kids sake to take advantage of what we offer for you and your kids/teens.

Every summer suburban parents send their kids and teens to academic camps, sports camps, out-door adventure camps and the like. Many of us send our kids because we want them to have extra training in areas they and we want them to excel.

The question then... is what do you want them to excel in this summer and in life.

Great Job Brad, Clint, Stacey and Leah!

Summer Time Fun Is Coming

What plans do you have this summer? Summer time is a great time to do some things that you normally do not get a chance to do. In the Hibbard house it is a time that we love to travel for vacation and try to go to places we have never been. This Summer we will hit two more new states as we vacation in Wisconsin and from there take a day trip into Minnesota. As many of you know, we as a family love doing different things and going to different places every summer. However, as we do every summer, there will be camps at church and sports camps.

(If you are looking for a great Baseball Camp for your kids...look no further than our own backyard. Kim Cousar is the Butler High School Head Varsity coach AND CSF member. They offer a GREAT baseball camp at Butler that is designed with every skill level in mind. Go to BUbaseball.org or email bubaseball@carolina.rr.com for details)

At CSF we are also making some different kind of plans for the summer....because routine is boring! On June 6th we will have nationally known comedian Tim Hawkins here for one night and one show only. This is a great night out for the family and a GREAT chance to invite a friend who does not attend CSF. Tim is not a Christian Comedian. He is a very funny comedian who is a Christian. Everyone will love it!

Also, starting June 22 we will have a FREE and FUN picnic on the Patio every Sunday following our noon service. That is right....every Sunday this Summer after 3rd service we will have a great summer picnic on the patio (or in the atrium if it is too hot or raining). Be looking for details. As a matter of fact....the summer is full of new and different things that will allow you to stay connected and have fun the entire summer. Moreover, everything is designed with your friends in mind...so bring them!

Today Bible Reading: Romans Chapter One

The book of Romans is great. As you read it....you will be inspired and challenged.

What do you think of verse 16? Paul said he is not ashamed of the Gospel because it is the power of God for salvation. What about verse 26-28. If their was ever a verse that showed very clearly God's view of homosexuality this is one of them. Never forget one sin is not any worse than another...however, we cannot pick and choose what use to be wrong and is now right. Also, as think of Homosexuality be named specifically here continue to read down as in verse 29-31...where other sins are mentioned. Let us all strive to be godly examples of what we should be!

Expand Totals To Date

Yesterday I shared with everyone the great news of how we hit our goals with Expand. As of today we have been given $215,000 in up front cash for Expand. Moreover, we had a little over 4 million dollars pledged over the next three years toward our dream of building a life-changing campus here in Matthews on 60 beautiful acres!

Each service was filled with excitement as I shared the numbers....great job CSF!

The buzz in the Porch Cafe was asking.... "what does this mean as far as time tables for the new addition and the purchase of the additional 40 acres?" Here are some things that will start to happen now and some answers:

1) To jump start our effort of having the new building up ASAP, our staff has made the decision to leave the warehouse and set up our entire office area in the new building. New technology of wireless everything will allow for us to be a semi-mobile office during the weekday and still use the entire building for ministry 7 days a week. This move will happen in June and will start to save us about 5,000 each month in rental bills. We believe the staff should set the pace of leadership and willingness to do whatever it takes to see things happen in a "Diligent" way! (listen to yesterday's message to get the full grasp of that word!)

2) We will begin the process of interviewing architects and contractors for the 2nd phase. As you know in Matthews construction is a slow painful process...the city of Matthews are not "Diligent" at all! HA HA

3) We had a meeting with the owners of the 40 acres last week to discuss specifics and time tables for their kind offer of doing seller financing. We will continue those talks and move forward a resolution soon.

Today's Bible Reading 2 Thessalonians chapter 3

Can you believe the timing of these verses. Paul says here that they were not lazy but that they worked for their food. He said that when needed they worked day and night so that they would not be a burden to anyone. He shares with us in verse 10 that if a person chooses not to work....they shall not eat. He condemns them for being idle or lazy and says they should get busy and earn a living.....

Wow...that is about as stern as Solomon in Proverbs describing lazy self entitlement people as sluggards and sloths!

Today....lets be Diligent in all areas of our lives!

You Can Now Give or Pay on Line

For the last couple of years people have been asking when CSF would have the ability to have on-line giving and the ability to pay for things like camps and sports registrations via our web page. That day is here!

You should know that we did not jump on the bandwagon a year or so ago when "everyone was doing it" because the cost to the church was to high and the safety was not yet made available in a less expensive way. However, after waiting and doing our research we have come up with what we believe is the best way for you to be able to make financial transactions via our website. (As you will learn this Sunday...we thought this matter needed us to be diligent and not hasty or slothful.)

Great job to Team Volunteer Brain Russell who did the research and made this possible. So.....starting now you can give your tithe to our regular budget on-line safely. You can give to our Expand Adventure and you can also pay for specific things like camps, sports and the like.

Go to WWW.Charlottesouth.com and click on "on-line" giving. From there everything is SIMPLE to understand. Go ahead and start racking up those air miles and points!

Don't forget these exciting things this Sunday:
* We will announce our Expand Totals
* Every Family will get a FREE CSF original CD from our band.
* I will start a new dynamic series called SIMPLE!

Today's Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5

Are you ready to die? Are you ready if the end of the world were to come today? The Bible is clear that no one knows the time or date. No one knows the details.....we just know that one day we will all either die or we will be alive when the "last day" comes. Are you ready? Do you know for certain that if a tornado were to rip through your neighborhood and kill you tonight that you would spend eternity with God in Heaven? What about your family and friends?

If you are not sure and want to chat with someone today....call the CSF office! If you are not sure about your family and friends start talking with them and inviting them to CSF with you!

A Letter that shows why we do what we do at CSF!

This email is from a new person who has attended CSF a few times this Spring. This person is responding to our follow up letter sent to them.....Names and specifics have been omitted.

"Hi Rick… sorry this has taken so long to reach you. What a kind and thoughtful note. Thanks so much for the prayers. My family has been through a lot...suffice it to say the prayers are extremely appreciated and I know they have helped, because we are doing better and things are rolling along without too much of the normal drama.

I thoroughly enjoyed the service and the sermon. I like sermons I can understand and that don’t make me feel any worse about myself than I already do. My desire to get back to God was provided to me in the counseling process. Mike (staff counselor) encouraged me to come to your church. The CSF service moved me because God was refereed to as the author of life and was mentioned in that way several other times. I am a journalist and ad copywriter by trade who desperately wants to become an author so I naturally took being at CSF as a divine sign. By the way, the video was amazing. I like that sort of message.

I also enjoyed meeting a lady in the cafe. She acted like she had known me all her life and we had just met. This was an odd departure from my previous church experience and the people there. Everyone there is always dressed in their Sunday best and appears wealthy and oh-so together. They file out afterwards, quipping requisite church small talk as they scurry off to brunch. I know these notions are not all real and result from my own warped view of church, but I think I associate religion to some extent with playing the role of "got-it-together Christians" who walk a social path to God. Mike promised me CSF would be different and he was right. I felt the people were real – they were drinking coffee and engaged and they piled in the doors and didn’t seem like actors. I did not feel like an outcast there. Yes, I was uncomfortable, and had a lot of anxiety being there, but it was okay that I wasn’t the ladies bible study leader, and I didn’t have to pretend to be a social butterfly.

So many negative things have happened in the past several years that I basically spent the bulk of the last few years withstanding crisis after crisis, mostly brought on by family stuff. I suspected that God lurked behind bushes and boulders with a lightning bolt, waiting for me to walk by, and when He saw me coming, gleefully jumped out to strike me down in some vulnerable area of my life. For years I felt that way and sadly, sometimes still do. The counseling has helped with this too, and that is why I deliberately set out to find a Christian counselor.

I’m not sure why I don’t commit to church, because in church I often feel the hand of God on my shoulder in those hallowed places; I know He is there and I know I am His beloved. It’s when I get out in the world that I royally screw up.

CSF and the counseling I am getting has really changed my life and is the catalyst that brought me back to God and to church after a many year absence. Even though I am an infant in this process I could not, would not be where I am without it. Thank you for the work you are doing and please accept my gratitude for providing a service and a safe place for lost souls like me to find the way out of the darkness of this world back to the light."

WOW.......Isn't t great to be part of a church that reaches those who are lost, confused and hurting. At CSF we are a Team of people called the local church that has one common goal....changed lives.

Today's Bible Reading. 1 Thessalonians Chapter 4

Are you shocked as you read through the Bible how many times the Bible talks about SEX? Why is that? It is because of what Paul says in verse 7..."God has called us to live a pure life." Sex is designed by God to be a great and erotic thing...between married couples! However, the misuse of it will always lead to problems and pain. The strength of the joy and pleasure is paralleled to the destruction that it misuse can bring.

We need to always make sure that we are on guard and that we control our bodies in a way that honors God, ourselves and those in our family.

Free CSF CD This Sunday

Over the last six months our CSF band has been writing and recording their own worship CD. These songs have become some of our favorites over the last few months in our Sunday services. This Sunday and "This Sunday Only" each family will get a FREE CD that has just been produced and is now finished. KC & The Band have been working very long nights and early mornings to get this project complete. It is a dynamic and inspiring CD. The songs come from the heart of our band and their full devotion to Christ and our church. What I love about this CD is that it is not our band just singing songs that are famous now in the Christian worship world......no,no,no, these are songs they wrote after listing to a Sunday message, after a personal experience with Christ at home, or thinking about what God is doing at our church.

This is the first of many CD's our band will begin to produce.....here soon we will even let you get in on the fun as we do a live CD recording!

Also, this Sunday I will announce the total given up front in cash to our Expand Campaign and how much was pledged over three years. (if you have not turned in your card...you still can) This will also be a great Sunday as we launch our new Message Series called SIMPLE. (see yesterday's BLOG for the titles)

Today's Bible Reading 1 Thessalonians Chapter 3

Paul continues to encourage the younger Christians that he has helped to reach, teach and grow in their new relationship with Christ. He tells them that even though he is in prison and is being persecuted for his faith, that he is thrilled that they are doing so well.

Question for you who have been Christians for a while.....who do you help reach and then teach. DO you have any young Christians that you are helping to grow in Christ? Anyone you meet with to encourage? In the Christian world this has always been called Discipleship. One person helping another to grow in their knowledge and practice of what it means to be a follower of Christ. Some companies call it shadowing and sports teams call it coaching. Do you have someone in your life that you are Coaching though the hurdles of this life?

If you would like to invest your life into someone in this way but are not sure how, or, you would like this done for you....contact Rick@charlottesouth.org for details.

It Really Is Simple

There are some things in life that are hard to understand. A Cyclone that kills over 100,000 people in one day, an earth quake that takes the lives of thousands of kids in school, tornadoes ripping through and killing people while they sleep and the list could go on. (Be sure to pray for these hard hit people!)

However, there are aspects of our life that are really are Simple. Things that we can do to give ourselves a better life and a life that is blessed and joyful. The simple choices between right and wrong, wise and unwise, good and bad. Our life is the SIMPLE sum total of the choices we make. The book of Proverbs is chalk full of wisdom and principles that allow us live a more healthy and enjoyable life. This week we begin a new series called SIMPLE.

SIMPLE
May 18th Be Diligent
May 25th Choose Good Friends
June 1st Avoid Addiction
June 8th Manage Anger
June 15th Be A Good Parent
June 22nd Follow God Only

Bring a friend for this life changing series that will really make your life SIMPLE!

Today's Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians Chapter 2

In this chapter you see a man who takes the ministry that happens in a local church very serious. Paul understands the stakes are high a people's eternity's hangs in the balance. He talks about the personal sacrifice that he and others make so that teaching, care and helping others happens in the church. He reminds us that we serve in the local church not looking for praise from other people but completely for our audience of ONE. He says we should not strive to please people...but God alone. However, He says that his personal hope, joy and the "trophy" or Crown in which we Glory is in the people he is serving.

What a great picture of group of people working together for the good of the Team. For the greatness of the Church. Paul is very clear that their is no "I" in team and no room for selfish and self centered people. I love the fact that so many people who call CSF home actually serve and are a part of our Team.

Mother's Day Mania

Yesterday was a great day at CSF. Scott Canada did a wonderful job singing the Trace Adkins song...."Your Gonna Miss This." It was funny to hear different people ranging from High School kids to older adults who commented about "I had never heard that song...but I really liked it...it was so true and beautiful." When they were told it is a popular country song, they were like....Really? I have said it before, Country Music is loved by all who give it a chance because it is music about the story of our lives. Also, these days it is the largest seller of any genre of music! I digress....

Mother's Day was another packed house! Moreover, the services were meaningful and hopefully we all left with the determination and principles to enjoy every day that we have and not miss out on today as we only dream about tomorrow.

I am not sure what you did for Mother's Day, but, hopefully it was a nice time to be with family and friends. As typical, the Hibbard's did not stay home....we kept on the move. We took Kelly to her favorite spot: The Mall. After a late lunch we headed over to the Concord Mills Mall. While there, Peyton asked if he could use his left over race car tickets he had from a previous time at the NASCAR Speed Park. His mom of course said it was fine, so we headed outside of the mall to let Peyton race. While he was waiting in line and Brady was running around climbing in and out of the smaller race cars that were shut down, A police man came running out of the Mall telling us that a Tornado had touched down not to far away and was reported to be moving in our direction. I scooped up Brady and whistled for Peyton and we all headed back into the Mall.

I thought.....only the Hibbard family would be outside at a race track when a Tornado rips through. The storm did come through with a torrent of rain and wind...but no Tornado. Anyway, I hope your Mother's Day experience was not that crazy....but I hope you had fun!

Today's Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians chapter 1

This is a quick and small intro chapter into the book of Thessalonians. However, it has some powerful attributes and character traits that are things that each of us should desire in our Christian lives.

Paul describes the Christians there using these words:

*Labor that prompts Love
*Inspiring Endurance
*They were imitators of goodness
*Model to other believers
*Servants of God and not chasers of Idols!

Do these describe you and your Christian life?

Great Weekend Ahead!

Someone asked me the other day why we were having an 80's dance on Saturday night. I told them we had three good reasons:

1) To have fun
2) To have a fun place and time to invite a friend
3) To have a fun place for dad's to bring mom (their wife) on Mother's day weekend that will be different than the normal and routine "dinner & movie."

With a live DJ, twirling dance ball, great food and the sounds of Journey, MJ, Madonna, REO Speed-Wagon and more..this will be a great night.

Also, we are having a special Mother's Day service on Sunday. This will be a meaningful service for all moms AND anyone who is a parent, has parents...or really has anyone in your life that you love dearly.

The theme for this years Mother's Day is "Enjoying Each Moment!" Make sure you invite your friends. Many times men are more willing to come on a Sunday where they know it is a special service for their wives.

This will be a great weekend at CSF! Have fun and enjoy MOM! Please remember as CSF Players....do not park in the guest parking area or in the front wrap around parking area. Thanks in advance!

Today's Bible Reading: Matthew 26

Denial, Betrayal and Fear. These are the traits that describe Jesus close friends the disciples as He was preparing for the Cross. Have you ever wondered what you would have done if you were there when all this was going on? Think you would have stood up for Jesus and defended Him? Hopefully! However, here is a great question as we head into the weekend. This weekend you will have a chance to stand up for your Christian values and principles or to denounce them by your actions. You will probably have a chance to be fear of what others think about your faith. What will you do?

Over 500 Million Made????

I was watching the news last night and was struck by some frustrating paradoxes that is happening in our current culture. I don't usually rant in public or on the BLOG, but I think we can see the entitlement,mis-prioritized and ME culture in America is alive and well!

People everywhere are bemoaning the high gas prices, difficult mortgages they have gotten themselves into and now the soaring food prices....these are definitely strained financial times. However, in the middle of what some would say is a recession.... the ridiculous, vulgar and immoral video game, Grand Theft Auto IV has made over 500 million dollars since midnight last Thursday. Moreover, Apple and Microsoft are posting all time sales with I PODS, I Phones, and other technological toys that are more wants than needs. The movie Iron-Man set the second highest sales of any movie. People say they can't afford food and gas and yet these and other items are still flying off the shelf. We are a mis-prioritized culture.

They are now saying that over 100,000 people may have been killed in Mynamar. That story is now more than three days old....so it does not even get the lead story in the news and there is more of an outcry and concern about the state of horse racing in America than what has happened in Mynamar. Sad.....

It is this misplaced values and ME centered culture that the local church must continue to guard against. While watching all of this complaining and then crazy spending....I was encouraged that the people who call CSF home and believe in the purpose and game plan of this special place showed on Sunday that we as church culture have our people & financial priorities in place. Many of you gave and pledged in a generous and sacrificial way. I can't wait to share with you on May 18th what our totals are for Expand. We still have people who are mailing in pledge cards and giving their up-front cash gift.

This Sunday we will celebrate Mother's Day. The theme for the day is that we, if we choose to, can take time to enjoy each moment that life gives us. It will be a thought provoking and meaningful service.

Today's Bible Reading: Matthew 25

This Chapter speaks directly to what we in our culture need to hear. Time is a gift and we are not sure when it will be gone. We must pay attention and be ready for our last breath. Moreover, we are encouraged to be faithful with what the Lord has given us while we are here on this earth. Our greatest investment of time and money should always be spent on God's greatest asset...people! Then, at the end when we see Christ, we will bask in His glory as he says to us: "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

School is almost out!

Last week at breakfast I asked Peyton (10 years old and in 4th grade) what he was looking forward to most about Summer vacation? Without having to even think about it, he blurted out....."not having to go to school!"

I remember those days! Knowing that in just a few days you would be out of school for almost three months. I felt like that from 1st grade through completing Graduate School. I laughed when Peyton said it and then followed up with, "so what do you want to do over Summer vacation?" He started his list.......

What are your kids doing this Summer? I hope you are doing all you can to get them signed up and ready to go to one of our Summer camps we offer at CSF! This year, once again, we have two great camps for all age kids PLUS we are having a one-day family camp!

I love summer time!

PS...over 50 ladies showed up at ZUMBA last night. They will be ready for our 80's dance this Saturday!

Today's Bible Reading: Matthew 24

The end of the world! The final days.... Topics that are not real clear in the Bible and Jesus himself said no one will actually know when the end of the world will happen. Could be now, could be after the next election, could be 100 years from now!

However, this chapter makes one thing clear....it will happen and YOU and I better be ready spiritually. What we believe about Christ now makes all the difference. Also, this chapter should encourage us to make sure we are inviting family and friends to church and telling them ourselves about who Jesus Christ is and wants to be in their life.

Zumba Is Here!

The Bible says that we should be healthy in mind, body and soul. Many times as Christians we focus on our mind and our soul without ever really taking into account our physical health. At CSF we have given messages on the importance of being physically fit and healthy. We have also always offered many sporting activities to keep our bodies moving.

Now at CSF we are keeping up with the latest and hottest health and fitness trend...ZUMBA. That is right.... we have certified ZUMBA instructor Dania Tschirhart from CSF that has agreed to serve in this unique way. Every Saturday morning 9:30-10:30am & again on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm we are dancing our way into health. ZUMBA is a n aerobic fitness program with a Latin flair that combines aerobic moves and high energy salsa music. This fun and dynamic program is sweeping the nation...and we have it here at CSF for FREE twice a week. How cool is that!

This is another example of creative serving at CSF. Dania does not charge as she sees this as a ministry opportunity. Before, during and after the class people are talking and building friendships as they get into shape. Everyone at CSF is invited and is encouraged to bring a friend! What a great way to introduce a friend to CSF!

ZUMBA Baby!

Today's Bible Reading: Matthew 23 (perfect lesson on the day NC votes)

This is a tough passage for all of us as Christians who are in ANY kind of leadership position. This is a tough chapter for those of us who are parents. This is a tough chapter for any of us who are Christians and have friends who are not and we know they are always looking at how we live our lives.....

Jesus said that the Religious leaders had positions of authority that demanded respect and that people had to listen to what they taught. However, Jesus then said....don't do what they do, because they live contrary to what they teach. He called them Hypocrites...ouch. None of us are perfect, however, we must always strive to make sure that what we say that others do...is what we are doing.

Expand Service Was Moving!

Yesterday was a very meaningful and awesome day at CSF. Many of you shared this similar experience as an email we received yesterday:

"To say that I was blown away this morning during the service would be a true understatement. I have never been so moved. The music was incredible! What amazed me was that when you were telling everyone to bring their expand offerings up front, before you were even done with the sentence people were already coming up front to drop in their gifts. There was not this hesitation, people were doing it because they are so eager for what is yet to come. It just showed what faith and enthusiasm that the people at CSF have. There was a couple that stopped at the treasure chest and after they placed their gift, they held each other and prayed. The whole thing was just over the top!"

Thank you to our band for writing, producing and then leading us in the 5 new worship songs that were written just for our Expand Adventure. Thanks to our Expand leadership team that started working back on January 5th! Thank you to all who gave a cash gift and a 3 year year pledge. You are awesome!

We have also received emails saying that some were gone on Sunday and did not turn in a gift or pledge. Please mail your pledge card in and your one-time cash gift in ASAP. We will announce the totals on May 18th.....this will give us a chance to receive all the pledges and give one combined total. Also, next week is mother's day and the service is all about MOM!

Now that the Expand Devotion is over...back to the daily Bible Reading:

(If you have missed a few days...get back on track with May 5th!)

Matthew 22

The parable of the Wedding Banquet is a reminder of why we have the style of Sunday services that we have at CSF. Every day of every week we are to go into the "street corners" and invite people who are not Christians and that do not have a church home to CSF. Here they will find a table set just for them! Here they will meet Christ and have the opportunity in a clear and compelling way to accept Jesus as their savior.

Expand Devotion/Prayer Day 14

When Joy is Complete

John the Baptist was a great man; Jesus said so Himself. John was the last of the prophets. When people heard him preach, they trembled. He attracted disciples, crowds, and the attention of the press. But when Jesus came, John never forgot his place.

Despite being goaded by his disciples to be jealous of the early success of Jesus’ ministry, John remained steadfast in his sense of place within God’s plan. He rejoiced in the following Jesus attracted. He even helped his own disciples to join Jesus. The scripture reference below is John’s explanation to his disciples—“…my joy is now complete. He must increase and I must decrease.”

Have you discovered this truth yet? Most of us think that joy increases as we increase—our wealth, our personal influence, our prestige and power. But in fact, just the opposite is true. Lasting joy is not found at the top of the corporate mountain. It is not a reward for accomplishment. No, true joy is found where John the Baptist found it—by finding one’s place in relationship to Jesus Christ.

Jesus must continue to increase in significance and Lordship in our lives, and we (our plans, ambitions, ego) must decrease. Are you ready to find joy? Now you know where to look!

Bible Verse

The friend who attends to the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine and it is now complete. He must increase and I must decrease. John 3:29-30

PRAYER

Lord, You must increase and I must decrease. Lead me to find joy and abundant living in You! Amen.

Expand Devotion/Prayer Day 13

The Sweet Fragrance

Can you imagine the scene…Jesus is talking with the men at the table. This was a proper setting, a place for invited guests only. And then came this woman with the perfume. Who invited her? And who gave her permission to pour the entire contents of her perfume jar on the head of the guest of honor? Can you imagine the smell? You know the way to use perfume…just a little dab. Yet, she poured the perfume like a football player dousing their coach with the Gatorade bucket!

Why waste so much expensive perfume? We do not know her heart for sure, but perhaps she had experienced forgiveness from Jesus. Maybe she just felt so grateful for Him that she lost her head for a moment. Whatever the reason, Jesus defended her heart and her lavish gift.

In 48 hours, Jesus was stripped of his friends, His dignity, and His clothing as he was nailed to a cross. That dark day, the only thing His tormentors could not get off of Him was the smell of that perfume on His head. As Jesus drew His breath in pain on the cross, did the smell of that loving gift strengthen Him to be broken and poured out for us all?

Bible Verse

While Jesus was reclining at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar, and poured the perfume on his head. Mark 14:3

PRAYER

Lord, give me the grace to give to You as lavishly as You have poured Yourself out for me.

Expand Devotion/Prayer Day 12

(Be sure to read the TRUE story from THIS week at the end of this devotion)

Touching All the Bases: Coming Home

Finally we are ready to fill out a pledge card. But this pledge has become something more than a donation. We have first given ourselves to the Lord.

We have prayed for God’s will to be done in our lives. We have looked hard at our resources in order to find ways to make our faith real with our gifts. This pledge
has become a stewardship decision that shapes your life. You are growing in your discipleship! Any gift may help to grow the church, but through this gift, God is actually growing you.

The amount of your gift is not the measure of stewardship. Not everyone has the resources to make a million-dollar gift; but everyone can make a sacrificial gift, in proportion to their resources. This models the kind of commitment that would honor and worship God.

Does your gift grow out of a faith commitment in which you first give yourself to the Lord? Is your pledge a prayerful commitment that seeks God’s will to be done in your life? Does your sacrifice make a real difference to you? Are you giving in ways that shape your living? If you can answer “yes,” then you are not simply sharing a gift—you are sharing your faith.

Bible Verse

But the King (David) replied to Araunah, “No I insist on paying for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God offerings that cost me nothing.” 2 Samuel 24:24

PRAYER

Lord, if I give in ways that mean little to me, how would that honor and worship you? Let my giving worship You as my Lord and my God.

**** When we all all help...we all cross home as winners! Once in a while those who are healthy and doing well will need to help those who are hurt and struggling.***

PORTLAND, Ore. - With two runners on base and a strike against her, Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon University uncorked her best swing and did something she had never done, in high school or college. Her first home run cleared the center-field fence.
But it appeared to be the shortest of dreams come true when she missed first base, started back to tag it and collapsed with a knee injury.

She crawled back to first but could do no more. The first-base coach said she would be called out if her teammates tried to help her. Or, the umpire said, a pinch runner could be called in, and the homer would count as a single.

Then, members of the Central Washington University softball team stunned spectators by carrying Tucholsky around the bases Saturday so the three-run homer would count — an act that contributed to their own elimination from the playoffs.
Central Washington first baseman Mallory Holtman, the career home run leader in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, asked the umpire if she and her teammates could help Tucholsky. The umpire said there was no rule against it.

So Holtman and shortstop Liz Wallace put their arms under Tucholsky’s legs, and she put her arms over their shoulders. The three headed around the base paths, stopping to let Tucholsky touch each base with her good leg. “The only thing I remember is that Mallory asked me which leg was the one that hurt,” Tucholsky said. “I told her it was my right leg and she said, ‘OK, we’re going to drop you down gently and you need to touch it with your left leg,’ and I said ‘OK, thank you very much.”’
“She said, ‘You deserve it, you hit it over the fence,’ and we all kind of just laughed.”

“We started laughing when we touched second base,” Holtman said. “I said, ’I wonder what this must look like to other people.”’
“We didn’t know that she was a senior or that this was her first home run,” Wallace said Wednesday. “That makes the story more touching than it was. We just wanted to help her.”

Holtman said she and Wallace weren’t thinking about the playoff spot, and didn’t consider the gesture something others wouldn’t do.As for Tucholsky, the 5-foot-2 right fielder was focused on her pain.“I really didn’t say too much. I was trying to breathe,” she told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Wednesday.
“I didn’t realize what was going on until I had time to sit down and let the pain relax a little bit,” she said. “Then I realized the extent of what I actually did.”
“I hope I would do the same for her in the same situation,” Tucholsky added.
As the trio reached home plate, Tucholsky said, the entire Western Oregon team was in tears.

Central Washington coach Gary Frederick, a 14-year coaching veteran, called the act of sportsmanship “unbelievable.”For Western Oregon coach Pam Knox, the gesture resolved the dilemma Tucholsky’s injury presented.

“She was going to kill me if we sub and take (the home run) away. But at the same time I was concerned for her. I didn’t know what to do,” Knox said.
Tucholsky’s injury is a possible torn ligament that will sideline her for the rest of the season, and she plans to graduate in the spring with a degree in business. Her home run sent Western Oregon to a 4-2 victory, ending Central Washington’s chances of winning the conference and advancing to the playoffs.

“In the end, it is not about winning and losing so much,” Holtman said. “It was about this girl. She hit it over the fence and was in pain, and she deserved a home run.”

Expand Devotion/Prayer Day 11

Touching All the Bases: Rounding Third

Praxis means putting our faith into action. Praxis is the point where what we believe and what we do join together. To put it simply, it means walking the walk as well as talking the talk! Now that we have made a faith commitment, and now that we have earnestly sought God’s will in prayer, it is time to turn what we have learned into what we can do and will do.

Now is the time to take inventory. Now is the time to ask, “OK, Lord, what have You equipped me and blessed me to do? What resources do I have to give? How can I think creatively—outside the narrow box of my income and expenses—in order to give myself fully? Are there assets beyond my monthly income that I can give? Can I create new resources to give with my talents, gifts, and time? Does my faith commitment lead me to change other priorities in my life, reducing spending and freeing resources for giving?”

There is no one correct plan that is right for everyone. Making faith real is a unique journey for every individual. Your praxis is your way of walking the walk. We must always be careful to not start well and finish poorly. Many batters have hit a great shot to the fence, felt good while running to first, rounding second and then while the crowd is cheering hit third and stumble...only to fall and get tag out. A lot of hype but no score. Making sure our faith is put into action is to make sure we run the bases well and finish strong.

Bible Verse

People should give what they have decided in their hearts to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

Matthew 6:19-21 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. You should store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy and thieves can't break in and steal. Where your treasure is...there you will find your hearts real desires."

PRAYER

Lord, what have You equipped me and blessed me to do? I have heard Your word, help me to be a doer of Your word.

4 days to go.......Lets come ready to celebrate!
